Before Race Day

When is the registration deadline?

Online registration only for the 2010 Ottawa Marathon, Half Marathon, and Ottawa 2K, 5K, 10K will be accepted until May 20, 2010 until 1 p.m. EST.

Note: No online applications will be accepted once the maximum field size in each race has been reached. In 2009, the Half Marathon, Ottawa10K, 5K sold out we anticipate 2010 will be the same so register early .

May I register on race day?

Registration will be available until Saturday May 29, 2010 at the Health and Fitness Expo until 1 p.m. assuming field sizes are not full.

Can a friend pick up my race kit for me?

Yes. If you are unable to pick up your race kit you may sent a friend to retrieve your race kit.

I am entered in the race but recently incurred an injury and will be unable to compete. Can I defer my participation to next year?

No. We do not offer deferments or refunds.

May I switch my registration from one race to another?

Yes, as long as you do so before May 15, 2010 on-line and after that date any changes must be done at the Health and Fitness Expo. Participants who wish to transfer their registration to a shorter race (Marathon to Half Marathon or Ottawa 10K; Half Marathon to 5K) may do so only if the shorter event is not sold out. No refunds will be issued. Participants who wish to transfer their registration to a longer race (such as the Half Marathon to the full Marathon) will be charged the difference between the amount they have already paid and the current registration fee for the race to which they wish to transfer, plus a $15 administrative fee.

How many participants do you expect?

The race caps are as follows:

Marathon: 4,500

10K: 9,000

5K: 8,000

2K: 3,000

Kids Marathon: 2,000

Do I need a qualifying time to enter the Ottawa Marathon?

No.

Is the Ottawa Marathon a qualifying race to the Boston Marathon?

Yes. More runners qualify for Boston at our marathon than any marathon in Canada.

Are there Corporate Team or Team Relays?

No, there are no team relays this year.

Is the Marathon walker-friendly?

Yes. The Ottawa Marathon is open to all competitors, with few restrictions.

Please note that all participants must complete the distance within 7 hours.

Race Day

I do not have a bib number. Can I run the race as an unofficial entrant?

No. Race amenities provided along the course, including medical assistance, fluid replenishment stations and traffic safety concerns are based on the exact number of officially-entered competitors. Any addition to this number by way of unofficial participants will adversely affect the races. For the safety of all race participants, unofficial entrants are not permitted.

What are the locations for the port-a-potties?

Port-a-potties are located at the start/finish line at Festival Plaza-City Hall. Additionally, port-a-johns will be located at each water station on the course and recovery area at Confederation Park.

What are the types and where are the locations for the replacement fluids?

Fluid stations are set up throughout the length of the course. Water will be supplied for the Ottawa10K at the 4K, 7.5K, & 9K marks. Ottawa 5K has one water station at the 4K mark. For the Ottawa Marathon and Half water stations are set up approx at 3.5K. Additionally, energy gels will be available for the marathon at 17K and 32K and for the Half Marathon will be available at 9K.

What is the average Temp at Start Time of  the Ottawa Marathon?

Approximately 50°F / 11°C at start time and at the finish about 70°F / 20° C for the marathon.

Can I use a baby jogger?

Permitted in the 2k and 5K races only.

What are the different divisions of the Ottawa Marathon that receive awards?

Please check the prize information page on your specific race day.

Where can I get a map of the race course?

There is a course map on this website.

How long will the finish be open for the Ottawa Marathon?

The finish will be open for 7 hours.

How can I review results at the end of the race?

Online information is updated as the race progresses. The race results will be posted online 24 hours from the time of the final finisher.

For Spectators, Press and Vendors

I am not running but want to know some information about watching the Ottawa Marathon race.

The race begins at 7:00 a.m. at the corner of Elgin St. and Laurier Ave. There is plenty of room for spectators along the course, or in the bleachers along the finish line. We also have several cheering stations along the course. See below:

I'm with the press. Can I interview the winner of the race?

Yes. Members of the press should email media@runottawa.ca after May 1st to request media credentials.
